When are tax statements sent out?
If you declare income in France and have not yet received your avis d’impôt income tax statement, this is normal – they will be arriving soon, at different dates depending on your situation.
The avis d’impôt is an important document which shows the tax payable on the income you declared for 2016 in spring 2017, as well as the total net taxable income for the year on which the tax due is based (revenu fiscal de référence).
The latter may be required for practical matters such as the right to certain kinds of savings account, welfare benefits or local tax reductions – or for example the free bulb offer we covered at this link.
If you opted for your avis to be only available online, then you will receive an email when it can be consulted from your personal space at impots.gouv.fr
If you did not then you will receive a paper avis (it will also be placed in your personal space).
Here are the relevant dates for receiving the avis:
- If you have no tax payable and/or you are due a tax refund it will have been available online since Monday (July 24); the paper avis should be delivered at the latest by September 4
- If you have tax to pay and have not set up payment in monthly instalments, the avis will be online from July 31 and paper ones will be delivered by August 25.
- If you have tax to pay and use the monthly instalment system your avis will have been online since July 18 and paper ones will be sent by September 7.
Note that if you realise from your avis that you made a mistake in your income declaration, those who declared online may adjust their declaration using the ‘Corriger ma déclaration en-ligne’ service, from August 1.
