An animal sanctuary is calling for donations to continue carrying out its work as it faces an uncertain future.

The Big V Sanctuary, in Châteauponsac, Haute-Vienne, is on the brink of closure.

Vital donations have been slow, co-founder Miranda Elliott said, partly due to the role animals largely play in French culture, and party due to the coronavirus as she called for kind-hearted donors to give just €1 per month.

About Big V Sanctuary

The family-run non-profit Big V Sanctuary was in 2011 to rescue farm animals that have suffered abuse and neglect and nurse them back to health

In some cases, Big V are able to find new permanent homes for the animals. The rest live out their lives at the sanctuary.

"Our aim is to provide for each individual a safe and loving environment in which they can live out a long and fulfilling life, whilst experiencing care and compassion towards their needs, to treat them as we would wish to be treated and to be pain-free and calm when the time comes naturally for them to exit this world", explained Miranda.

"We strive to offer an environment which allows people to connect with the animals who deserve to be treated with respect and kindness. We invite people to spend time with us, help us and work alongside us in order to understand and appreciate the commitment of becoming an animal guardian."

One-off donations

The Big V sanctuary is calling for donations so it can stay open and help the animals receive the care they rely on. Alternatively, donors can join Teaming, and donate just €1 a month. They are currently on 258 members, donating €1 a month, but the sanctuary's monthly food bill is well over €1,000 a month.
