Job offer for eBay Graduate

Student who auctioned himself for a job online gets work offer from minister for youth.

A STUDENT who placed himself for auction for companies after five months of job hunting has been given a placement by the government’s minister for youth.

Yannick Miel, 23, placed himself for auction on eBay after sending 300 applications and attending 20 interviews.

Mr Miel, who holds a master’s degree in business studies and organisation management, described himself online as “cheap and easy to maintain” and “a superb young graduate in good health”.

“You will not regret this small investment,” he said.

Mr Miel was visited by the minister for youth, Martin Hirsch, as he manned a stand in Paris’ La Défense business district where he was offering himself for sale.

The minister offered him a three-month contract working in the ministry.

He told the AFP news agency: “He came and offered me a job on a commission which aims to help the integration of young graduates.”

“If it’s not hidden away in a broom cupboard and I can actually do the job and continue to look for work elsewhere, this could be interesting,” he said,

 A record 34,000 new business were created in France in January – up 35% compared with December – thanks to the new auto-entrepreneur scheme introduce by the government at the beginning of the year.

The figures, from the Agence pour la création d'entreprise (APCE) were of “a scale never before seen” according to the Secretary of State for Commerce Hervé Novelli.

The auto-entrepreneur allows sole-traders to pay social charges and tax based on their turnover rather than estimates.

Mr Novelli added that one new business in two was created by someone unemployed.
