Mayor in court for slapping boy

Youth had abused and insulted councillor after being told off for climbing on new fence

A MAYOR is appearing in court today accused of giving a youth a clip on the ear.

Maurice Boisart, the mayor of Cousolre in Nord-Pas-de-Calais, had opted for public trial in Avesnes-sur-Helpe after refusing the prosecutor's offer of a €600 fine for slapping a 15-year-old who had insulted and threatened him.

A councillor for 30 years, the 62-year-old had told the youth off for climbing on a fence newly-erected by the council to retrieve a ball - and then been abused by the boy who threatened to kill him.

Although the boy admitted what he had done at the original hearing in October his father has since lodged a complaint.
