RAILWAY police shot dead a security guard’s Belgian shepherd dog at the Gare du Nord in Paris after it reportedly went ‘mad’ and bit a policeman in the arm and leg and attacked a passenger.
A woman passenger was injured by a ricocheting bullet and events are being investigated by the IGS, the unit which investigates the police.
A security guard, waiting for a train with the dog, of a breed similar to an Alsatian, was approached by police initially yesterday as the dog was not muzzled or on a lead, contrary to the rules.
It was then the dog “went mad and would no longer obey orders”, according to Le Parisien.
It ran away and police ran after it and shot it. In the confusion its owner ran away.
Police chased him and brought him back in handcuffs and he is today expected to appear in court charged with putting people’s life at risk.
