Waste-free shopping a click away

Most of us would like to be more environmentally responsible but need it to be as easy as possible.

Le Drive Tout Nu, near Toulouse, has found a way to marry convenience and sustainability: its click-and-collect grocery service is the first in the world to promise zero waste. Nothing in its organic produce range has travelled more than 100km.

Pierre and Salomé Géraud (pictured above) aim to remove the psychological hurdles to achieving zero waste by making it easy for buyers.

Customers simply visit the site, choose their produce and collect it.

For each first order, glass jars and canvas bags are provided free of charge. When these containers are returned, the client gets a voucher giving them money off their next order.

The service helps the environment by eliminating the plastic packaging that is so pervasive in supermarkets and which is causing increasing environmental health concerns.

By sourcing all its produce locally, it reduces supply chain emissions and supports local businesses.

Mrs Géraud said: “With Le Drive Tout Nu, we marry the simplicity of mass retail with responsible consumption and zero waste.”

The service opened its first site at Beauzelle in December and the couple plan to roll the model out.
