‘Free’ mobile 4G service is not so free

The appealing offer comes at a non-quantifiable price

Mobile phone operator Prixtel has launched a ‘free’ mobile 4G service aimed at 15-25 year olds that is paid for by advertising.

The deal includes internet, SMS and calls – but users must spend up to 90 minutes a month completing surveys, testing applications, or watching videos to benefit from free services.

Clients earn ‘lightning flashes’ for completing tasks, which they can trade in for data, calls or SMS options. The more flashes they earn, the more offers are available. Aix-en-Provence-based Prixtel has entered into partnerships with major brands who cover the service’s cost in return for advertising access to its customers.
