A former King of Poland built this square in honour of his son-in-law, Louis XV. 

It was completed in 1756 and is one of the oldest examples of an architecturally consistent monumental public square - earning it status as a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1983.

The four corners and the west and east sides of the square feature gilded iron gates while the north-west and north-east corners also feature ornate fountains.
