There are only poor replacements for BBC Sounds in France

To the Editor,

I cannot believe the shortsightedness of the BBC in cutting off foreign access by closing down BBC Sounds. 

It has been one of the most respected services in the world – there was something for everyone. 

I have downloaded BBC.com, which only offers live access to Radio 4 and the World Service. 

I am sure I am speaking for listeners around the world in saying that this is a very poor replacement as it does not have the flexibility we have treasured of having a menu available on demand in our own time zones.

There is one positive aspect: I have fallen back on podcasts and discovered new voices. 

Anderson Cooper has a wonderful variety of interviews. 

I have also explored the web for literature readings and can recommend openculture.com.
