4 ways to get your French online Covid vaccine certificate
The certificate is proof of your vaccination status and will this summer be used to facilitate travel within the EU and access large events in France
Update: This article was amended on June 9 to state that you must have a valid French social security number in order to access your Covid-19 vaccination certificate online.
People in France who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and have not received a certificate of proof with two QR codes on it (see example in picture below) can obtain one through France’s state health insurance website Ameli. This is only the case if they have a valid social security number in France.
The dedicated link for this is attestation-vaccin.ameli.fr
The certificate is evidence that you have been vaccinated against Covid-19 and will also serve as a way to access large events in France, as well as to travel around the EU once its travel passes are fully operational from July 1.
In order to log in to the site to get the vaccination certificate, you must have an account at FranceConnect, which will automatically be the case if you are in the French health system and have a personal account on the ameli.fr website.
If you do not have an ameli.fr account and are in the French health system, you can create one with elements including your bank account details, post code, date of birth and your social security number.
Otherwise, you can also access FranceConnect if you already have an account with another partner organisation, but you must still have a valid social security number in France.
FranceConnect is a service that allows you to sign in to various different services in a simplified way. You need one password and one user ID code (identifiant).
You can use ones you set up for any of these: impots.gouv.fr (tax website); Mobile Connect et Moi (for Orange mobile customers – to be expanded later to other firms); MSA (farmers’ social security); alicem (an Interior Ministry app); or La Poste’s identité numérique.
You have a carte de séjour
If you do not have an Ameli account you can also connect to FranceConnect by signing up for La Poste’s identité numérique.
For this, you will need a French passport, a French ID card or a carte de séjour of more than five years.
If you have one of these documents, the sign up can be done quickly online here.
In order to access your vaccination certificate using this login method, you still need to have a valid social security number in France.
You have a French tax number (numéro fiscal)
You can also connect to FranceConnect using your 13-digit tax number. If you have paid tax before in France you will have this number. Again, you will only be able to access your vaccination certificate via this process if you have a valid social security number in France.
You use Orange mobile network
You can also connect to FrancecConnect if you have Orange mobile network.
When you go to FranceConnect’s website you can select to sign in using ‘mobile connect et moi’, and then input your French mobile number. In order to get 'mobile connect et moi', you must be able to prove that you live in France.
This service is to be extended to other mobile networks, such as Bouygues and Free, but there is no date confirmed yet for when that will be.
You do not have a social security number in France
There are likely to be some people living in France who do not currently have a French social security number because they have private health insurance or are still waiting for their application to be processed.
The Connexion has contacted the French Ministry of Health and France's national health insurance service to ask about what to do in the situation and is awaiting a reply.
The Ameli website explains that if you cannot or do not want to use this online service, then you can request your certificate from the professional who vaccinated you, or ask your GP, pharmacist or any other health professional. The Connexion has not yet been able to verify how this process works.
The Ameli website states that you can also ask for help at your nearest France Services centre, of which there are 1,300 around France.
See a map here of all the France Services centres.
What is the certificate for?
The certificate principally serves to show that you have been vaccinated against Covid-19.
The government’s health pass system in France that will allow people to use the vaccination certificates to access large indoor events of over 1,000 people is due to be in place by June 9.
The certificate will also serve as proof of vaccination when the EU-wide Covid travel passes are fully up and running, to allow easy travel within the Bloc.
The technical system that underpins the pan-EU Digital Covid Certificate went live on June 1, with Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Croatia and Poland being connected to the gateway.

The EU aims to have the passes functioning in all 27 member states by July 1. France’s Assurance Maladie will update vaccination certificates from June 21 in order to format them to the European health pass. From this date the certificates will be available in French and English.
