Cash stunt raises capital fears

Paris police head worried that plan to give away several thousand euros in cash in streets could disrupt public order

A PLAN to give away several thousand euros in cash in Paris streets has upset the head of the capital's police.

Website Mailorama.fr said the giveaway will take place around the capital on November 14 between 14.00 and 17.00.

The cash will be thrown from buses bearing the company's brand name and the locations will be revealed 48 hours in advance.

Five thousand packages containing between €5 to €500 euros will be given out along with company leaflets, but no obligations, said event organiser Stéphane Boukris.

"We're expecting to attract tens of thousands of people," said Mr Boukris who added that at least a dozen security would be present.

The head of the Paris police said it was studying the plan for its risk to public order and whether the operation was legal.
