Chocolate dishes are favourites

Chocolate fondant, followed by chocolate mousse are France's favourite desserts, particularly among the young

THE FRENCH have a taste for chocolate as their favourite dessert, particularly among the young.

Chocolate fondant was chosen by 24%, closely followed by chocolate mousse (23%) before crepes (traditional, not chocolate) and îles flottantes crept in to stem the chocolate flood in a survey by pollsters TNS-Sofres.

People aged 18-24 were the most chocolate-prone, with 39% picking fondant and 31% mousse as their favourites. They were also fans of the chocolate-friendly dishes tiramisu, macaroons and brownies.

Older people, over 65s, preferred more traditional French desserts, apple tart, îles flottantes and strawberry tart.

A healthy fruit salad did make it to second place in the choices of 50-64-year-olds, but only scored 12th place overall.
