Church uses Johnny Hallyday songs
Fund-raising campaign calls in rocker to boost donations
CATHOLIC churches in Vosges and Meurthe-et-Moselle are calling on Johnny Hallyday to help raise funds – using some of the ageing rocker’s music for a publicity campaign.
The churches in Nancy et Saint-Dié diocese are using lyrics such as “Light up your faith and see the flame in your eyes” and “We all have something of Jesus inside us”.
Abbé Robert Marchal said they wanted to reach out to people who no longer go to Sunday church services but still claim the Catholic faith.
They need to raise €3 million this year.
Previous campaigns with phrases like “Jesus crisis – give something, damn it” and a poster turning a crucifix into a revolver were criticised internally – but were a great success in getting donations from people who were no longer active in the church.
