Drunk driver calls to alert gendarmes
50-year-old man made phone call to tell law enforcement officers that he was driving over the limit
A DRUNK driver in the Languedoc was caught by gendarmes - after he phoned them himself to let them know that he was over the limit.
The 50-year-old man from the Ardèche was pulled over at Pont-Saint-Esprit, Gard, on Saturday night with 2.18g of alcohol per litre in his bloodstream, more than four times over the limit, and with no points left on his licence and no insurance.
Local newspaper Le Dauphiné Libéré reports that the driver had himself called the gendarmerie from his car to explain to them that he was driving drunk. He spent the night in a police cell and will face charges on Monday.
An eyewitness had also alerted the gendarmerie after they saw his car crash into several other vehicles as he tried to manoeuvre out of a parking space.
