Fears over housing
Ministers have asked for views on changing the quota of social housing that must be provided in larger towns, sparking fears of a change to the current 25% when many communes have not reached the previous ‘legal minimum’ of 20%.
Rents in social housing (HLMs) are low for low- income tenants and it is feared fewer HLMs will be built and that councils will be allowed to include higher-rent properties to pad the quota.
