First ski station of the season opens in Pyrenées
Skiers have made their first trips down the mountain as the first ski station of the season opened its doors - and ski lifts - this weekend.
The Porté-Puymorens (Pyrénées-Orientales) ski resort opened one piste on Saturday November 11, and over 400 skiers took the opportunity to try out the run, as reported by French news source FranceInfo.
The opening was a little earlier in the year than planned, with just one two-kilometre green (“lowest difficulty”) piste available, but skiers still appeared happy to be out.
“We’re having a great time. We didn’t think it would be so early, so it’s great; we’re making the most of it,” said one skier interviewed by FranceInfo.
“The skiing conditions are average; but for a first go, it’s really great. We’re having a good time,” said another.
The station - situated between 1,600 and 2,500 metres - is the first to open in France this year, and will remain open today (Sunday 12).
After today, it will close once again, until its official opening on December 6.
