French income tax: Online declarations suspended due to errors
Tax officials have taken the rare step of closing down declarations ‘at least for the weekend’ after reports of errors over amounts that are pre-filled
Online declarations on the French income tax website – which opened yesterday – are temporarily inaccessible while the tax authorities deal with reports of errors.
Officials say the declaration service is suspended today and at least for this weekend while investigations are carried out.
It is said to have followed reports of incorrect amounts having been pre-filled on some people’s online declarations.
Income known to the tax offices, such as French salaries and pensions, are automatically pre-filled but people are asked nonetheless to check them as occasional errors are possible. Also, in some cases there are additional amounts of similar kinds of income to be added into the same boxes.
Reportedly some teachers, in particular, have flagged up excessive amounts having been inserted in their online forms.
Officials say the problem is not expected to affect declaration deadlines. They add that if anyone has already signed off a declaration which had an incorrect amount pre-filled they will be able to correct it after the service reopens.
Online declaration deadlines this year are from May 24 to June 8, depending on your department.
