Ham recalled to Carrefours and Auchans in France over listeria risk

Packets of ham are being recalled to Auchan and Carrefour stores across France because of a chance that the product may be contaminated with listeria.

In Carrefour, the ham was sold under the label ‘Jambon cuit supérieur avec couenne 2T 80g’ (Superior cooked ham with rind) between December 5 and 16.

Its barcode number is 3560071014513 and the batch number is 1127870. In Carrefour, the recall procedure lasts until December 31.

In Auchan, the product is marketed under the label ‘Jambon cuit supérieur taux de sel réduit VPF 4 tranches’ (Superior cooked ham with reduced salt – French pork product – four slices).

This ham was sold in Auchan stores across France from December 5 to December 13. Its barcode number is 3596710353217, and the batch number is 1129104.

The recall procedure will last until December 28.

Risk for pregnant women

If you have bought one of these ham products, you should not eat it, and should instead take it back to the shop for a refund.

Anyone who has eaten the product and who then experiences a fever, with or without a headache and muscle pains, should go to their doctor, explaining about the ham.

The listeria monocytogenes bacteria can cause a listeriosis infection, which is particularly dangerous in pregnant women, as it can result in neurological complications in the foetus.

The incubation period for the infection runs up to eight weeks.
