Heatwave alerts raised across southern France tomorrow
Aude, Hérault, Gard, Ardèche, and Drôme will be placed on heightened alert from midday
Heightened heatwave alerts will be raised in five departments in the south of France from midday tomorrow (September 4) as temperatures continue to climb as part of a September heatwave.
The tier-three orange canicule alerts will come into force in Aude, Hérault, Gard, Ardèche, and Drôme.
Warnings will last until at least Saturday morning and most likely into the weekend.
Temperatures in the departments could reach well over 35C and potentially 38C on Friday.
Elsewhere, tie-two yellow alerts will be raised in several departments across the south-west as many have highs of 35C forecast.
There is the possibility that heightened alerts will be implemented in these departments on Friday morning - either immediately or throughout the course of the day - based on morning conditions and forecasts.
It is only the second time that tier-three heatwave alerts will be implemented in France in September, following a burst of intense heat in September 2023.
The implementation of tier-three heatwave alerts may see departments enact heatwave plans, affecting residents across the departments.
Authorities will also contact vulnerable people on heatwave registers.
