Minimum wage set to rise again
The Smic is expected to go up from €9 to €9.18 in June or July, due to rising living costs
THE French minimum wage, le Smic is expected to go up 2% on either June 1 or July 1.
Le Smic, currently €9/hour, or €1,365 a month, is raised by law each time inflation rises 2%.
According to financial newspaper Les Echos this means it will rise again, to €9.18 (€1,392) this summer, despite the fact it was last put up in January.
Food, petrol and energy are the areas where prices have gone up the most since the start of the year.
