October one of the hottest since 1900

Average temperature was 2C above its typical 11.5C, making it sixth hottest in more than 100 years

THIS month has been one of the hottest Octobers since 1900, according to Météo-France.

Average temperatures across the whole country were 2C above the typical 11.5C.

With the exception of a cold spell around the 10th-13th, temperatures across the whole of France have been warmer than usual.

The weather forecaster said this was particularly noticeable with minimum temperatures.

Météo-France said it was the sixth hottest October since 1900 – and pointed out that four of the five previous hottest Octobers have occurred since 1990 (1995, 2001, 2005, 2006), the other being 1921.

The month’s rainfall was also 10% above average, except in Corsica and around the Mediterranean.

Rainy weather is the overall pattern for the country in the coming days, with bands of raining moving north to south.
