Thirty-three northern departments are on a weather alert for snow and black ice tomorrow and residents in the Ile-de-France are being advised to work from home if they can.
People in the Paris area are being advised to limit travel where possible, with the city’s préfecture de police stating that conditions are liable to get worse in the afternoon and make things difficult on the roads towards the end of the day.
It comes as the DGAC civil aviation authority warns that air traffic is likely to face major disruptions both to departures and arrivals at Charles-de-Gaulle and Orly airports.
“Cancellations and significant delays are expected,” the body states, advising travellers to put off their trips if possible.
The N118 (which runs from Pont de Sèvre, on the Seine to the west of Paris, to Les Ulis) will be closed to traffic from 22:00 tonight.
Some 33 departments across the north of the country are being placed under orange alert, meaning people should take great care if going out.
Météo France says icy rain and snowfall could disrupt traffic between Brittany, Paris and the north-east, starting from tonight and moving into tomorrow.
The departments concerned are: Côtes-d'Armor, Morbihan, Ille-et-Vilaine, Manche, Calvados, Mayenne, Sarthe, Eure-et-Loir, Eure, Orne, Essonne, Paris, Yvelines, Val-d'Oise, Seine-et-Marne, Marne, Aube, Haute-Marne, la Meuse, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Vosges, Haut-Rhin, Bas-Rhin, Oise, Seine-Maritime, Yonne, Loiret, Aisne.
