Police hunt after €6m warehouse raid

THIEVES escaped with between €5m and €6m worth of mobile phones and laptops following a raid on a warehouse in Val d’Oise.

A gang of 15 broke into a warehouse in Eragny, about 30km north of Paris, on Monday night, reports Le Parisien.

The report said that the gang did not appear to be armed but were able to “neutralise” the five employees still working in the building before loading a truck with pallets of stolen goods.

The crime, described by police as “well-organised”, took about an hour.

News of the theft broke days after French police said they had broken up a gang of thieves believed to have stolen €1m worth of grand crus wines from prestigious Bordeaux vineyards.

About 300 officers in four regions of southwest France and Paris made 20 arrests on Monday after a series of dawn raids.

Police believe the gang stole “to order”. In total, 13 chateaux and two wine depots were targeted.

The thefts began in March last year and the last one took place on February 5. Over the past six months, chateaux across Bordeaux reported thefts about once every 15 days.
