School's latest pupil is a sheep

Parents enroll 'Vincent P' to stop education authority from shutting down primary class

PARENTS at a school in Saint-Nazaire have enrolled a sheep in a class that was threatened with being cut as it did not have the full quota of pupils.

The Loire-Atlantique education authority said it would close the 12th primary class at Jules-Simon school as it was a pupil short. They needed 287 pupils for the classes but had only 286.

However, the parents hit back by enrolling the black sheep and one told Ouest-France newspaper: "As the pupils are being counted like sheep we decided to make up the numbers with a little sheep, named Vincent P."

The parents' federation FCPE organised a protest outside the school to complain about the "injust and arbitary decision".
