AROUND one thousand petrol stations are now affected by fuel shortages due to tanker driver strikes – but it is hoped the dispute may end by the weekend.
Last night unionists demanding better working conditions for drivers were received at the Transport Ministry and they say “significant advances” were made.
The CGT Transports union, which called the strike, says the talks may open the way to lifting it before the bank holiday weekend.
The Ile-de-France is still the area most affected by the strike, with some drivers reporting driving round five or six service stations before finding one with petrol to buy – but then facing long queues to fill up.
