Students, teachers to strike May 15
Teachers will join students in a walk-out on May 15 against job losses and what they term ‘backward’ education policies.
TEACHERS’ unions have called a strike on May 15 against what they term ‘a step backwards in teaching’.
Five unions (FSU, Unsa-Education, Sgen-CFDT, Ferc-CGT et Sud-Education) representing 70% of teachers, have called on members to strike.
Student unions have already been protesting for more than a month against the loss of 8,830 teaching posts in collèges and lycées – which is scheduled to begin at the start of the new school year (rentrée) in September.
In a collective statement the teachers’ unions called for a new education policy to replace proposed government reforms which they say will making working conditions more difficult.
The statement added union were angry at reforms at the primary stage of education which they described as a step backwards for teaching. They called for a new policy aiming at the success of all students.
