Toddler bitten in face by dog
A child from the Var was air-lifted to hospital after being attacked by a pet in his parent’s absence
AN 18-MONTH-OLD child has been hospitalised after being seriously injured in the face by a dog.
The attack happened at the family home in Pourrières in the Var. Ambulance crews who attended said the boy suffered a “serious bite in the face” and the local prefecture referred to a wound on the forehead.
The toddler was transported to the North Marseille hospital by helicopter.
A source close to the enquiry told Nice-Matin the nephew of the child gave the alert around 18.00 while the child’s parents were absent.
The dog is said not to have been of a breed classed as “dangerous”, and may have been an Australian shepherd or a Brittany spaniel.
There are two categories of “dangerous dog” breeds, to which various special requirements apply including owners having to register at the mairie.
