A historic former mill once owned by the parents of French singer Vanessa Paradis, is for sale with an asking price of €900,000. It was once valued at over €2 million.

The property is located in the village of Saint-Rémy-de-la-Vanne (Seine-et-Marne), and was originally used to produce paper pulp, reports Le Figaro.

The mill is named Les Sources as it features seven springs, or natural water sources. This is also the title of Paradis' 7th album, released in 2018, in reference to her childhood home and dedicated to her father, André Paradis, who died the previous year. The album’s title track features the sounds of a bubbling stream and singing birds - a nod to the idyllic countryside setting.

The property comes with five hectares of land (Pictured in 2016)

The property was sold in 2015 to the developer SFP2, which has since gone into liquidation judiciaire (compulsory liquidation), and was converted into a piano bar, restaurant and a reception venue.

It has however been abandoned for several years, hence the reduction in value.

Property is ‘very degraded’

“The entire property is now in disuse. The meadows, gardens and canals surrounding the building are in a state of neglect and partially overgrown with vegetation,” reads the property announcement

“There is a lot of work to be done. The exterior still has character but the interior has been squatted in and is very degraded,” local mayor Régine Herbette told actu.fr

The public auction led by the Paris Court of Justice is scheduled for February 5 at 14:00. The price could still fall “by a quarter then a third of the original asking price” if no buyer is found, states the property announcement.

Paradis, who sang the hit song Joe le taxi, previously owned a country home in Le Plan-de-la-Tour (Var) with ex-partner Johnny Depp

She married French director Samuel Benchetrit in 2018, in the village of Saint-Siméon, just 2 km from the Les Sources mill property.
