Website ‘cannot replace notaire’
A spokesman for the notaries has insisted a new site for making a will cannot give the same service as a professional
THE BODY overseeing the notaires’ profession has criticised a new website aimed at helping people make a will online, saying it cannot replace the services of a professional.
The site testamento.fr is said to have been created with help from lawyers, and to be a simple and inexpensive way to make a will.
Users answer a series of questions which result in a PDF document which they then copy out by hand and send for registering by a partner notaire.
Creator Virgile Delporte says the site is aimed at people whose affairs are simple, and is meant to appeal to busy people who may not have the time to visit a notaire.
However, Laurent Mompert, spokesman for the Conseil Supérieur du Notariat, told BFMTV: “It’s disregarding the reality of drawing up a will to think software can replace a notaire.”
