Whirlpool recalls thousands of ‘at risk’ kettles
More than 310,000 potentially-dangerous kettles have been recalled by kitchen goods manufacturer Whirlpool, including 16,700 sold in France.
The global recall is for electric kettle models under the brand “KitchenAid”, manufactured between January 2013 and June 2017. Recalled models will also have a serial number including the code 5KEK1722.
The model and serial number of the kettles can usually be found on the bottom of the product itself.
Whirlpool announced the recall on Tuesday February 20 after “recent reports from clients”.
Internal testing revealed that the handle of the kettle model was at risk of “becoming loose and separating from the kettle, potentially causing injury”, according to a statement from the company.
All consumers with potentially-affected kettles should “stop using” their product, and check the website www.repair.whirlpool.com to be sure. Whirlpool has committed to replacing “all the affected kettles for free”.
The company confirmed it had already changed its manufacturing process for the product at its factory in China, to guarantee that new kettles will not be affected by the flaw.
