Covid France: Can I get the jab in a different department?

The proximity of the vaccine centre is more important than the department or region it is in, the health ministry has stated

Reader question: Can I get vaccinated in a department other than the one I live in? All the centres in my department are fully booked but I have a car and I am willing to travel further to be vaccinated.

Short answer: Yes, if there is an appointment available.

It is possible to be vaccinated in a different department to where you live and even a different region. You should, though, aim to get an appointment at the closest vaccination centre to where you live.

"It's above all the proximity to your place of residence that is important," newspaper Ouest-France reported the Ministry of Health as saying.

A telephone operator at the Covid-19 helpline confirmed this to Connexion. She said it is possible but you should try to get one as close to your home as possible. She said that If you live on the border of two departments or two regions, aim for the closest one.

The Connexion has heard from one reader who reported that when he tried to book an appointment on booking platform Doctolib in a centre 100 kilometres from his home, he received a message saying that it was “reserved for people living in the region”.

This should not happen but could be down to the fact that there is a shortage of vaccine doses in France at the moment.

So far only people aged 75 and over, or those who are younger but in high risk categories, can be vaccinated.
