France lockdown: Will on-street parking be free again?
On-street parking was free in many places during the first lockdown in Spring
Reader question: Will on-street parking be free where I live, as it was in the spring?
It depends where you live. During the spring lockdown, free on-street parking was widely available across France to support frontline and emergency workers. This time, schools and more businesses remain open, so there will be more traffic.
The mairies of Reims, Bayeux, Perpignan, Hyères et Draguignan, Cannes, Le Cannet, Grasse and Vallauris, have all offered free city-centre parking, albeit for varying durations and with some exceptions. For example in Biarritz, on-street parking is free but underground car parking is not.
Meanwhile, free on-street parking is not available in Paris, Toulouse, Caen, Nancy, Nantes and Lyon during the second lockdown.
Auto-moto.com has a list of locations offering free on-street parking, and you can check with your mairie to find out if it is available where you are.
