How to check property sale prices near you in France
This official tool lets you consult recent transactions
If your neighbour has sold their house recently the sale will probably be listed on the DVF database
If you are buying, selling or simply curious about property prices in your area, France's Demandes de valeurs foncières (DVF) database allows you to look up the sale price of many properties across the country.
The DVF is a free public service managed by Etalab, the government body responsible for making public data available. It contains information on property transactions recorded by the tax authorities and is updated regularly.
How to use the DVF database
To search for property sale prices, select your department and commune on the DVF website before zooming in on the map.
Properties with recorded sales are highlighted, and clicking on one reveals details including:
the sale price
the date of the transaction
the property's floor area
the size of the plot, where applicable.
The price shown is the net sale price and does not include estate agency fees or notaire fees.
The database can be particularly useful if you are researching local property values before buying or selling a home.
Where is data unavailable?
Property sale data is not publicly available for Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin, Moselle and Mayotte.
This is because these areas operate under different land registration systems, with ownership records held in the Livre Foncier rather than the standard national property register.
Use the cadastral map
The DVF platform also provides access to France's cadastral map, showing the boundaries and parcel numbers of individual properties.
This can be useful if you need to identify a property's cadastral reference, check plot boundaries or locate neighbouring parcels.
If you have lost your property deeds (acte de vente), knowing your property's cadastral reference can also help when requesting replacement documents.
