Main 2042 tax form on website ‘soon’

Published Modified

The main tax form – 2042 – is still not available for download at impots.gouv.fr but this is deliberate on the part of the tax authorities.

They have told us that the form will be available ‘soon’ however they have held off putting it online in order to make sure that, where applicable, people do not use a blank form but use the pre-filled ones sent out to them instead.

Anyone who has made a French tax declaration before and has not opted out from receiving paper forms should have already received a form in the post, pre-filled with their personal details and those incomes already known to the tax office, or be about to receive it. Meanwhile the site has been open for online declarations since last week however this service is also (for most people) only available if you have declared before.

If required urgently forms can also be obtained from your tax office.

Those declaring on pre-filled forms should take care to check them, as reportedly some forms have gone out missing certain figures, notably French pension income, as a result of a computer error.
