Should I have my UK annual tax summary translated into French?
We live in France but have UK government (civil service) pension income. Do we need to have our UK annual tax summary translated into French to make a tax declaration? P.W.
No, there is no need to translate the UK income tax assessment. You declare the gross income received in the UK tax year that ended in the French tax year. You take the P60 income figure for the UK tax year 2015/2016, convert this into euros at the average exchange rate for 2016 and declare on forms 2042 and 2047.
Alternatively, you can take the monthly sums received during 2016 and convert these into euros either at the average rate above or the exchange rate on the day the funds were received into your bank account, and then insert the figure as above.
The tax office may ask for a copy of the UK income tax assessment showing this income assessed in the UK, so it is easier to use the P60 option. However there is no need for you to translate your UK income tax assessment.
