Ground beef products recalled by French supermarkets over E. coli risk

Ground beef burgers and mince from the brand La Belle Nature have been recalled by supermarkets in France, as they may be contaminated by E. coli.

The affected products were sold in Casino, Carnior, Olivre, and Leader Price supermarkets.

They are:

• viande hachée 20% 350g (Lot 21187-3017)
• viande hachée 5% 350g (Lot 21187-2994)
• viande hachée 5% 650g (Lot 21187-2985)
• steak haché 15% x8 125g (Lot 21187-2964)
• steak haché 15% x2 125g (Lot 21187-2956)
• steak haché 5% x8 100g (Lot 21187-2869)

All the affected products have a best before date of July 14.

Customers who have bought the products should return them to the store where they purchased them.

This comes a few weeks after batches of Rocamadour cheese also contaminated by E. coli were recalled by supermarkets in June.

These include:

• Rocamadour AOP 105G made by Fromagerie de Quercy, sold in Cora, Leclerc, Intermarché and Casino
• Own-brand cheeses, Rocamadour AOP from "Casino Ça vient d’ici", Rocamadour AOP 105G from Leader Price, and Rocamadour AOP 105G from Franprix.

Consumers who bought affected products have been asked to return them to the store where they were purchased, or throw them away.

Illness caused by E. coli bacteria can cause abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, and fevers within one week of the products being consumed.

People who have already eaten affected products and who have symptoms should consult a doctor.

If no symptoms appear 10 days after eating contaminated products, it is not necessary to call a doctor.
