Ryanair moves French airport bag-drop deadline forward by 20 minutes
Check-in desks and bag-drop services will close 60 minutes before departure
Ryanair passengers flying from France will have to drop off their hold luggage 20 minutes earlier from November 10, when the airline brings in a new check-in deadline.
Airport check-in desks and bag-drop services will close 60 minutes before scheduled take off, instead of the current 40 minutes.
This means passengers with a flight at 12:00, for example, will need to have checked in and dropped off their luggage by 11:00, rather than 11:20.
The change applies across all Ryanair routes, including all French airports served by the airline.
Who is affected?
The new deadline affects passengers who need to check in at the airport or drop off hold luggage.
Those travelling with just cabin baggage checking in online will not be affected. Online check-in will continue to be available until two hours before departure.
Ryanair first announced the change in April and issued a reminder on October 27, ahead of its introduction.
The airline says the earlier bag-drop closure is intended to give passengers more time to get through airport security and passport-control queues after checking in their luggage.
Around 20% of Ryanair passengers check in hold luggage, according to the airline.
Chief marketing officer Dara Brady said the change would give these passengers more time to reach their departure gates before boarding begins, particularly during busy travel periods.
He also advised passengers to arrive at the airport in good time and complete check-in and bag drop before the new 60-minute deadline.
Ryanair is expanding its self-service bag-drop facilities, with more than 95% of the airports it serves expected to have kiosks this month. These allow passengers to print their own bag tags and check in luggage without waiting at a staffed desk.
