Forthright – or just rude
Some people may change character when speaking another language but some people’s character could do with changing.
On a day out in woods in the Lozère we came across ceps and we gathered a fair few for
a French friend on our return.
Initially overjoyed, she later told us in great detail how she had had to reject many for not being to her ‘usual standards’.
She had also been stuffy about a home-made cake given as a present, saying it was dry.
She is not the only French person to be so blunt and critical. Love France, but prefer Anglo-Saxon politeness, real or feigned, over French forthrightness (plain rudeness!)
