Roads across France are set to be extremely busy this weekend (Friday, August 26 to Monday, August 29) as the summer holiday season comes to a close.

Traffic forecaster Bison Futé issued a reminder of its alert today, and said that today and tomorrow are classified as ‘red’ (the second-most-severe level).

It said: “The main difficulties are expected from 10:00 onwards and will continue until early evening, mainly on the A7 and A8 motorways in the Rhône Valley and the Mediterranean, and on the A10 from Bordeaux to Paris.”

Drivers are advised to cross or return to Ile-de-France by 14:00 on Saturday.

And while Sunday is expected to be easier on the roads, a ‘red alert’ has still been issued in the Paris region for Monday morning on the main toll roads and motorways. This is expected due to a mix of late-returning holidaymakers and employees returning to work after their breaks.
