Case against Normandy Juno Beach turbines is 'spurious'
Reader provides some context amid the debate
To the Editor,
The article on wind turbines off Juno Beach in September’s Connexion opens up an interesting debate on wind turbines and where they are.
I think the World Heritage argument on not having them is a bit spurious as World Heritage status applies to the landing beaches and the turbines are 10km offshore.
However, it does raise the question of where we get our electricity from. Do we want it generated by fossil fuels? Do we want the risk of a nuclear accident?
The arguments against onshore wind farms hold more credence than offshore wind farms.
Personally, I look out at 17 turbines. The nearest is 700 metres from the house and, frankly, I neither hear nor actually notice them.
I would much rather have my electricity generated by wind and solar than fossil fuel or nuclear. So, on balance, let the wind blow and generate electricity offshore.
