Compensation costs for the recent storms and flooding across the west and south-west is estimated to be in the billions of euros
Birth rate falling but population is 67m
France’s birth rate is falling and has been doing so since 2014 with 747,000 babies born in 2016 as against 781,000 in 2014 and well short of the 802,000 in 2010.
Statistics agency Insee says its population is 66,990,828 and figures show France could see only 730,000 births this year.
