Carla deeply touch by gifts & support
PRESENTS have flooded into the Elysée Palace since baby Giulia was born – ranging from nappies to a book on getting back your figure after pregnancy (entitled Mince Alors).
However, one present President Sarkozy and Carla probably won’t get is a santon made by clay artist Gennaro Di Virgilio in Naples... of themselves carrying the baby.
The model was on sale within hours of the baby being born in the Muette clinic in Paris.
Sarkozy himself missed the birth of the first baby to be born to a president in office because he was in negotiations with German chancellor Angela Merkel over the euro and only got to the clinic in Paris after the event.
But he said: “We have been lucky to have a great happiness; our joy is very deep, a joy all the more profound because it is private.”
Carla revealed Giulia’s name on her website and said she and her husband had been “deeply touched” by the many messages of congratulation and gifts they had received.
