France mints new €1,000 ‘Hercules’
THE Paris Mint has put out 10,000 new gold coins stamped with the mythological figure Hercules, each worth €1,000.
The coins will always be redeemable in France at their face value of €1,000, however should the value of the gold they are made from go up, holders will be able to sell them for more. It is worth €800 at current prices, but gold is more and more valued as a secure investment and has been attracting much interest from buyers this year.
A mint spokesman said it is no longer possible to buy the coins directly as the series was quickly snapped up. It is however possible to find them at a “reseller”, who will, however, be selling them for somewhat more than face value. See www.monnaiede paris.fr/revendeurs
A coin of €5,000 face value is to be released at the end of the year, with orders possible from November. A new issue of silver €10 coins is also shortly to be released, available from post offices.
