French driver caught for insurance ‘valid to February 31’

Gendarmerie discovered the windscreen disc was a forgery after spotting that the “valid until” date does not exist

A driver in Drôme, southeast France, was caught out this week after gendarmerie discovered that his insurance disc was “valid until February 31, 2021” - a date that does not exist.

Gendarmerie were performing a routine road check in the Valence area on Wednesday October 21 when they stopped one car and made the discovery.

The insurance disc on the windscreen of the vehicle appeared genuine at first...but on closer inspection was“valid until February 31, 2021”. Yet, the month of February only has 28 days (and 29 in a leap year).

This led the gendarmerie to conclude that the disc had been forged. The driver was also found to have forged his last MOT (contrôle technique).

The driver now faces legal action for allegedly driving using false documents.
