Girl, 3, left all night in nursery
Frantic parents called police who feared kidnapping - but cleaner found girl asleep on mattress
PARENTS have been reunited with their three-year-old daughter after she was ‘forgotten’ at her nursery and left alone in the building all night.
Aby was found by a cleaner who opened up the leisure centre at Châtelet d'Orléans in Loiret and found her fast asleep on a mattress.
Her frantic parents had reported her missing to police after one of the staff at the nursery told their child-minder the little girl had left with another woman. Police launched a hunt for a suspected child kidnapper.
However, Orléans mayor Olivier Carré admitted that this was just one of a series of failures by the nursery staff, leading up to leaving the little girl alone in the building and not checking that there was no one left inside.
He apologised to the parents yesterday and said: “As a parent of five children I can understand that this sleepless and worrying night was very hard for them.”
The nursery worker was sacked and the mairie has called on all nurseries to tighten up procedures.
Aby did not go hungry during her ordeal as a policeman told local newspaper La République du Centre that she had managed to find cake and fruit juice in the nursery’s fridge.
