New Bac figures show 86% pass
The latest figures for the Baccalauréat show 86% passed overall, up from 83.7% last year, the previous record
UPDATED figures for the Baccalauréat exams show a record 86% of candidates passed with all exam kinds combined.
This compares with 83.7% in 2008 and 2007.
The figures follow the épreuves orales de rattrapage (oral catch-up tests). These are a chance for those who missed out on a pass (10 out of 20) by no more than two points to retake some of their exams orally.
The latest figures show that in the general Baccalauréat exams the final pass rate was 88.8%, compared to 78.4% which was the rate announced last week before the orals. The other kinds are technological (79.7%) and professional (87.1%), the latter showing the biggest overall leap compared to last year, when the rate was 77.2%. This was the first year the professional exam allowed for catch-up orals.
The figures may still change slightly in September after exams for a minority of candidates who were unable to take theirs in June.
