Obligatory new form for any travel into France
Anyone entering France from abroad must now bring with them a special travel attestation form due to the Covid-19 restrictions.
The forms are comparable to those used by residents when going outside, with boxes to be crossed giving reasons for travel, but they only allow entry and subsequent travel through France in very limited circumstances.
They should be presented to the travel firm before travel and at border checks in France.
Essentially the only reasons given for such travel are if you are a French national or a resident of France (or their spouses or children), including frontier workers returning home from work over a border.
Alternatively you could be travelling through France to reach your home in another country or in one of a few other limited categories such as if you are a healthcare professional fighting Covid-19.
Note that due to the Brexit transition period, for purposes of the form the UK falls under ‘EU or assimilated countries’.
The form can be found here in French and English-language versions: https://uk.ambafrance.org/Coronavirus-Covid-19-transports-vers-la-France It is currently not available in an electronic format.
The British Embassy said in a statement it is keen to raise awareness of this document among UK nationals living in France or who may need to transit through France to get home. Cross-border businesses should also be aware, the embassy said.
"We also want to take this opportunity to remind British citizens that the Foreign and Commonwealth Office currently advises against all non-essential travel abroad. UK nationals who own second homes in France should not be looking to travel to France for example."
