Obtain a health attestation for carte application
One of the requirements for a carte de séjour application via the new French government website for Britons in France is an attestation of your healthcare rights – but how do you obtain one?
For those who are covered by the French state health insurance scheme the answer is straightforward – you obtain it from your health caisse (for most people this will be their Caisse primaire d’assurance maladie, Cpam).
An attestation de droits is different from your Carte Vitale.
If you are set up with a personal account on the Cpam's website ameli.fr you can download an attestation de droits directly from your account by clicking on Mes démarches.
You can also obtain one from the ameli application on a smartphone or tablet or at one of the automatic bornes (terminals) at Cpam offices.
You can also request one by telephoning your Cpam on 3646, Monday to Friday 8.30 to 17.30. You should have your Carte Vitale to hand.
The attestation can be attached to the carte de séjour application as a scan or photograph if it is not already in a digital format such as a PDF document.
These attestations are available both to those who are directly affiliated to a French caisse via work etc... as well as retirees with S1 forms.
If you do not have access to an attestation de droits because you are a newcomer to France and have only an Ehic form, or you are an early-retiree with private healthcare insurance policy we are checking with the Interior Ministry as to whether a scan of these is suitable.
