Sarkozy wants to tax drug-dealers
Proposed new law would apply income tax to the value of seized drugs, weapons and counterfeit or contraband goods
DRUG-DEALERS who are caught by police will face a tax bill as well as criminal charges under new plans announced by Nicolas Sarkozy.
The president, who wants to "hit dealers in the wallet", is backing a law that would see the value of any drugs seized by police treated as revenue and subject to income tax.
According to Les Echos, the new taxation would also apply to illegal arms dealers, ticket touts and anyone caught selling counterfeit goods or contraband cigarettes and alcohol.
The law is being examined by the French cabinet before being debated in parliament.
