Most declarants will need to complete the process online

The opening date for France’s 2026 spring income tax declaration has been confirmed by tax authorities.

The declaration, relating to 2025 income, will be available to complete online from Thursday, April 9, authorities told several French media outlets.

This is for residents and for those who derive income from a French source even if they do not live in the country.

As a reminder, income tax bands have increased by 0.9% for this year’s declaration, in line with last year’s inflation following the passage of the 2026 budget.

However, original plans included in the budget to see the 10% automatic deduction for pensioners replaced with a flat €2,000 allowance were removed.

Most people must complete their declaration online, however paper forms are available for those making their first declaration, or who have poor internet access or otherwise struggle with the online version.

Automatic declarations’ that see much of the form already completed with information held by the authorities are expected to be available again this year for around 11 million households.

The Connexion will cover the declarations in more detail once they are open, however you can check out previous articles covering key points to remember and information on how the ‘parts’ system affects who pays tax.

The Connexion also produces an annual guide to French income tax declarations. Our 2026 edition (for 2025 income) will be available for purchase at this link from early April.

Deadlines not yet known

Despite confirming the opening date of the declarations, the Direction générale des Finances publiques (DGFiP) has not yet confirmed the deadlines.

These are tiered based on the department you live in (or if you are declaring from overseas or by paper), with four main deadlines usually given, falling between six to nine weeks after declarations open.

Updates from the authorities over any changes to the declaration will also be made available in the weeks prior to the opening date.

Last year, several changes were made including to the tax website itself, as well as the dissemination of paper forms to those who had made online declarations and at-source tax rates for couples living together.
